Today’s topic is “良いお年を！(Yoi otoshiro!)”

When you send greetings to someone at end of the year, what do you say?

You may say “Have a great holidays” or “Best wishes for the New Year”.

On the last work day of the year, Japanese people say goodbye to their office mate in particular way.

It is 良いお年を！(Yoi otoshiro!).

“良い(Yoi)” means ‘good’. and “お年(Otoshi)” means ‘the year’. People wish others’ best new year.

From an ancient days, ‘new year’ is connecting to shinto religion in Japan.
